Moving

Comments off

I’m in the final stages of a move, which is why the site has been rather quiet. On the bright side, things are almost in order, I’ve got movers to help us out, and I’m not moving 700 miles this time. I’m just going to be moving about 5-10 miles to another town. We’re escaping apartment life and moving into a nice 3 bedroom house. We’re renting for now with the economy the way it is, but we plan to stay here for a good, long time. The place has all hardwoods, a decent backyard, a nice sized kitchen, and a nice layout. I’ll be taking some photos tomorrow at the lease signing and I’ll put them up in the photo gallery. Yes, it’s back, and even though it’s slow, I’m sticking with Gallery for my needs.

In more geeky news, I’ve completed my first soldering project, which was a learn to solder kit that I got online. Amazingly enough, I didn’t screw it up and it worked. Sure, it just flashes two LEDs back and forth, but still, it worked. There’s really not a lot to soldering, it’s just a matter of enough heating, enough solder and not going overboard. I’m excited to get moved and settled so I can start working on some other things as well. As far as gaming goes, all of the consoles are packed up and ready to move, so I’ve been spending some time in Team Fortress 2, which is always fun. I have a new favorite server, hosted by Noob Gamers, which I recommend if you’re looking for fun, teamwork and some great gamers to play with. I also had the opportunity to play a couple of rounds with a friend in PA, non other than MMMMgggggooosss… err, I’m sorry, MMMwwwhhhiiiittt :)

So anyway, that’s where things are at right now. The move is on Saturday, and hopefully I should have everything in order that there’s not going to be a loss of net access.

I’ve hit a dry spell of late as far as content to post goes. My day to day life is going just fine, and there’s not really anything new to write about. Married life is just fine, and unlike most have told me, being married does not change anything, really. We’re still the same two people who love each other, we just happen to have a legal piece of paper now. Emma is still doing well, and hopefully she’ll either be crawling or walking soon. Time will tell, though. As far as work goes, it’s been a year now since I’ve moved down here, and the job is still great. Sure, it has stressful times like any job, but it seems to be fewer than when I was up in PA. Some things people have been saying to me have been bothering me of late. I really shouldn’t let those things bug me, but some of the things are just so asinine it’s hard to let them go. I won’t go into them here, but for the most part it’s based on things these people know about me, yet they don’t take the time to get the whole story straight, and that really, really drives me nuts.

I haven’t really done anything geeky of note lately, other than change my photo gallery software from Gallery to Zenphoto. I did this because Zenphoto is lighter weight and easier to manage. Most nights, though, you’ll find me either reading tech sites or playing Team Fortress 2. There are some geeky things I want to do, such as:

- Finishing the media center (either PC or modded Xbox)
- Finish syncing my laptop and desktop
- Try coding a few things

In addition to trying to motivate my geeky side, I find myself wanting to try a new hobby, but the question remains: What do I try? My interests lie mostly in computers, and some other things I thought about in the past just really aren’t feasible anymore. I’m sure I’ll find something new with time, though. For now, I’ll just keep playing TF2, reading tech news and just hanging out at home with the family, which makes me happy. Before I go, I wanted to share with you a picture of us, on our wedding day.

Please note, this is one of the few (very, very, very) few sightings of me in a tuxedo.

In only 2 weeks (or so) I turn 31. It’s not a big deal really, as my birthday is usually just another day in my mind. But, this year we’re going down to New Orleans. I’m sure there will be plenty of pics, and I haven’t been down there since 2000. Bethany has never been there, so it should be a lot of fun to explore the city with her and Emma. I can’t wait. :)

In geek news, I’ve abandoned my Myth rebuild attempt. The quality is ok, but on the big hi-def TV it looks pretty bad. With paying off some of the debt we had, I think we can afford to keep the Tivo around. What this means now is that I get to rip apart the old server (again) and move the 250GB drive back to the old Xbox. The old Xbox will once again become the media center, and the 1.4gHz P4 server will go back into the closet as a spare. The laptop is working out quite well, and I find that I’m using it a lot more than I am my desktop. The only time I turn on the desktop anymore is to update it or else play Team Fortress 2.
