So as I had mentioned, we took a trip down to New Orleans. Bethany had never been there, and it had been some time since I went there myself. So, we set out 6am on the 28th for the Big Easy. The drive was pretty uneventful, and Emma did just fine. We hit a bit of traffic on the I10 bridge, but otherwise no major problems. The following morning, we were off and running. First, we had to go to vital records to get our marriage license, then we had some lunch and at 3:30 we were on our way down the aisle. You read that right. Beth and I eloped while in New Orleans. We were married in a wonderful little chapel down in the French Quarter, complete with cake. The reverand and his wife were great, Beth looked wonderful, and I looked ok-ish for being in a tux. I’ll post a pic later on, but everything was just wonderful, and I now have a ring on my finger. :)

Saturday we were off to explore the French Quarter. We wandered up and down the streets, checking out the sights and just enjoying the city. It was a bit eerie to drive through some sections, seeing the FEMA trailers and piles of trash around, but for the most part the city seems to be recovering well. Sunday we went to the Zoo and the Aquarium, and agin, pics will follow. All in all, it was a great trip, we enjoyed ourselves, Emma did fine and I can now say that I no longer have a fiancee, but a wife.

This question was posed to me earlier today. Looking at our current situation, you may think I’m marrying Beth because of our child together, because it’s the “right thing to do”. I’m not marrying her based on our situation, I’m marrying her because she makes me happy. I cannot see spending the rest of my life with anyone else. She knows how to make me feel better, she makes me laugh, she’s sweet, caring, loving. She makes me happy much more than words can describe, and I can trust her with my life if it came down to that. That, in a nutshell is why I’m marrying her. I could go on for days as to why, but she knows and I know and really in the end, that’s all that matters.

While I’m on the subject of questions and other things posed to me, is it so wrong that I get annoyed by being witnessed to, albeit on an indirect level, at least once a week? I’m perfectly fine with anyone following any religion they desire, but please, don’t try to convert me while I’m in the middle of something, or better yet, take the hint and just don’t waste your breath. At least it’s not as bad as the time I had someone come up to me on the street while out with friends and attempt to witness to us. Our response? “It’s your hell, you go burn in it”. The person had mentioned that we were all bound for Hell and would burn for eternity if we did not accept Jesus as our lord and savior. If I’m going to explore religion, it’s going to be on my time and on my terms.

Finally, Emma is still doing well, although the poor girl has yet to sleep entirely through the night. She’s beginning to coo and watch things a bit more closely now, though, and today officially marks two months for her. Momma and I are doing very well with things, and while sleeping apart is a little rough, in the end we’ll be back in the same bed soon. Anyway, I’ve ranted enough for now. If you’re interested in what’s going on as far as our family goes, you might want to check this out, where most of the baby-related posts are going to end up.
