A Thanksgiving Thought

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

Thanksgiving is fast approaching once again, and I’m looking forward to it. My mom and sister are making their way down to see us, and Beth gets to do the ceremonial roasting of the turkey. While I am excited, I can’t help but miss my dad. Thanksgiving always reminds me of him, and this year is just as tough, if not tougher, than last year on me. Last year I was still in somewhat of a state of shock, but this year my mind is really thinking about him, if that makes any sense. Anyway, if I don’t post again before the holiday, have a great Thanksgiving.

An overdue update

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

Yes, it’s been a while since I’ve written anything. I’ve been busy doing the dad thing, which is working out quite well, actually. Things are going pretty smooth, although we think the little one may have acid reflux which is causing some fussiness, but we’ll find out this week when we get her in for her checkup. Things are going well, and I can’t believe it’s almost the end of October already. Time is flying by quickly, it seems. Speaking of time and such things, if I know you personally (such as the CPLUGers), drop me an email with your mailing address. Come July, you’ll have a wedding to go to, and no, you’re not going to end up coming to GA…. We’re doing it up in PA. Stay tuned for that.

In geek related items, I finally got around to getting the 250GB drive pulled from my old media server and put into my original Xbox. Now, I’m running XBMC on it, and it works great. I need to load it up with my media collection yet, but once that’s done, then I’ll have a media center without needing to have a dedicated PC running all the time. On the Linux front, Arch is working out just fine on my desktop, while the laptop is still in Windows land. I’m not going to touch the laptop right now because I will be smacked around if Windows is not on it. Beth uses it when she’s up with Emma, and she rather likes having her Windows, so I’m not going to do anything to it right now. It’s the whole “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” deal. Anyway, more coming later. Oh, and if you want to see pictures of the newest edition to the family: http://family.endperform.org/photos

Same ole story

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

Not much new to report really. Things are still going fine with Emma, although lately she’s been a bit fussy. We’re getting through it, though. It’s hard to believe it’s October already. Next summer will be here fast, and there’s going to be a wedding back in Pennsylvania. It’s amazing to see where I’ve been this year as far as my life goes. A couple of major changes, and I’m still surviving just fine. In fact, I’m pretty darn content to be honest. More posts coming soon, but before I go, I want to wish the one I love a happy birthday. Happy birthday, Beth!

Daddy Update

Friday, September 28th, 2007

It’s been two weeks into fatherhood, and so far so good. I’m doing well, baby is doing well and momma is doing well too. I’m surprised I haven’t driven Beth completely insane as I had been questioning myself almost daily about whether or not I could do this. I know it probably bugged her, but I’m finally over that hump and she hasn’t locked me in a closet yet. We’re both really happy Emma has arrived, and things are settling down into a routine.

Today is my first day back to the office, and it’s almost like I never left. Nothing major happened while I was out, and everyone had congratulatory wishes for me when I walked in. I didn’t want to come in today, but sometimes a dad’s gotta do what a dad’s gotta do. I can’t believe that October is almost here. This year is flying by pretty quickly, and before I know it, I’ll have year 1 in Georgia under my belt.

Not much Linux-y or geeky to talk about of late as I’ve been in daddy mode. Once things settle down a bit more I’ll start working on a few things I have ideas for.

Emmalynn is here! — Updated

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

Emmalynn Keary was born on September 13th, 2007 at 4:45PM. She weighed in at 7lbs 10.5oz and is a healthy girl. Beth’s doctor decided to move the C section up to Thursday because Beth was having a bit of high blood pressure. Both baby and mom are stable, and daddy is doing well so far. Pictures are coming once we get home from the hospital and get settled in.

Here’s baby and I. More pictures can be found over here: http://family.endperform.org/photos/v/emmalynn/
