No Sound…still
I’ve been fighting with the sound on my laptop ever since I upgraded to Gutsy. First, the kernel did not have the custom DSDT load patch installed, so I couldn’t use the original fix I had in Feisty. Well, they did manage to patch the kernel, however, the DSDT fix did not work. I’ve tried every howto I could find, and got the same result: Either the laptop would hardlock at bootup, or else the customer DSDT would not do anything at all. I took a look at the Toshiba website and found they have a little Linux area, but nothing that would really help me out. I think the thing that really has me a bit upset is that the fix, which used to work, doesn’t now. I’m guessing it’s something in the kernel changed that doesn’t agree with the DSDT now.
So, since I do need my sound, I put Vista back on the laptop, and I plan on running Gutsy as a virtual machine. I thought for a moment about attempting to run Gentoo again and see if I could custom-build a kernel, but I don’t know if I want to go through that amount of trouble, since I want to have the laptop readily available should I need to get into work. It sucks that one issue has deterred me, and while I could just load up Feisty and run with that, I’d rather be a bit more cutting edge. So hopefully either someone finds a hack and gets a custom DSDT for my laptop, or I just keep Vista and virtual machines on it.
