Yakuake: My new favorite term
I found myself a new terminal, called Yakuake (who comes up with these names?). If anyone has played Doom or Quake before, you might be familiar with the console that drops down from the top. Well, Yakuake does the same thing. Just hit F12, and down comes a terminal. I’m finding this to be very nice in that I don’t have a terminal window in my way all the time, but there’s one at the ready. It appears to embed Konsole, and has the same configuration options, with the additional options for Yakuake itself.
I’ve installed it at home, and at work. It’s very useful at work as well as I’m almost always logged in somewhere and needing to swap between a term and our ticket system, or email and the like. I’m running it with KDE, but I believe it will run on other environments. It doesn’t seem horribly heavy on resources, either, which is a plus.
